As you may have seen, on Monday the Prime Minister announced that England would go into a new national lockdown from this morning.
During this lockdown, all restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes will be required to close for dine-in customers.
However, the rules also explicitly make clear that food delivery services can remain open throughout this period. Takeaway is also permitted until 11pm, except for alcohol which is no longer allowed to be sold for pick up from restaurants.
That means you can continue to order from your favourite local restaurant, pub, cafe and grocery shop through Deliveroo.
We know this is an uncertain time, and we're here to deliver for you, just as we're here to deliver for our restaurant and grocery partners who we want to support now more than ever.
Delivering for you safely
We're focused on ensuring delivery with Deliveroo is safe at all times. The Government has previously said that people staying at home should continue to order meals as COVID-19 is not known to be transmitted by exposure to food or food packaging. Below are some of the measures in place to help make sure you can order safely.
Contact-free delivery
We've launched mandatory contact-free delivery so your rider will leave your order at your door or at a location you have specified when you made your order. We've also introduced mandatory contact-free pick up at restaurants. This is to ensure that social distancing is maintained from the moment your order is picked up to the moment your order is delivered to you.
In app food hygiene ratings
We've made FSA hygiene ratings available to you in the app, so you can filter and sort for restaurants with the highest hygiene rating. We've also created a dedicated '5* hygiene' tile in the app so you can easily find restaurants with the highest hygiene ratings in your area.
Hygiene is key
Your safety is our number one priority. Based on government guidance, we advise that you wash your hands thoroughly as soon as you've received your food order and before you eat it.
Supporting our riders
We've been providing riders in the UK with face masks and hand sanitiser free of charge. Also, riders who are told to self-isolate by a medical authority or who are unwell are given financial support, so riders don't have to work if they are unable to.
Supporting the NHS
Since early last year we have been delivering free meals to healthcare workers - NHS heroes who are working tirelessly to keep us safe. We will continue to do so, working with our generous restaurant partners. If you want to support the campaign, please visit the app and search 'Support NHS'.
